Everyone knows that the modeling industry is a hard nut to crack””but when 17-year-old Karrie Brown told her family she wanted to be a model, her mom, Sue, was super supportive of her daughter’s dream. She set up a Facebook page for Karrie and posted daily photos of her wearing outfits from Wet Seal’s plus-size line.
Sounds pretty straightforward, right? Well, there’s something special about Karrie that makes this story extra-awesome. Karrie has Down Syndrome.
“Karrie has Down Syndrome,” her Facebook page explains, “but she doesn’t let that stop her from following her dreams, which is to be a model. We recently found out that Wet Seal has started carrying plus size clothing, which happens to be a great fit and fashion for girls with Down syndrome.” After getting tons of likes for her modeling shots on Facebook, guess what: The powers that be at Wet Seal noticed and flew Karrie and her mom to its HQ for a special photo shoot.
